Pirani & Balboni win at Trofeo Novarossi

The 2019 Trofeo Novarossi was held at the Mini Autodromo Jody Scheckter in Fiorano this past weekend. In 1/8th IC Track it was Shepherd’s Andrea Pirani with the win in front of ARC driver Marco Bianchi in 2nd and Shepherd’s Mattia Collavo who completed the podium in 3rd position. Over in 1/10th 200mm Touring it was Alessandro Balboni (Shepherd) with the win in front of Valerio Righi (Capricorn) and David Loppini (WRC) in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Jason Nugroho wins Indonesia Buggy Nationals Rd2

The 2nd round of the Indonesia Buggy Nationals was held last weekend at the Banana RC Track, Batam Island with a total of 25 drivers having attended the event. The race format was six rounds of 10-minute qualifying with the four best to count. In the end it was Jason Nugroho (HB Racing/Ninja) with the overall TQ honours and he also came out on top in the 60-minute A-main event, leaving behind Adrian Wicaksono (Mugen/Ninja) and John Agus (Kyosho/O.S.) in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Schumacher Atom 2 1/12th GT12 pan car

Schumacher have announced the soon release of their Atom 2 1/12th scale GT12 pan car. The all-new steel alloy chassis makes for a very low centre of gravity, excellent for maximum cornering speeds and the all-new slide pivot system is a low friction, bind free design that maximises rear traction while still offering an easier build and low maintenance. Based on the British Championship winning Atom the Atom 2 also hosts many other new features such as an adjustable LiPo position, floating servo mount, a lightweight pod assembly, a hub carrier design with improved geometry giving faster cornering with no compromise to drivability as well as a thread insert design making work on the car much quicker and simpler. The car, that will become available in a carbon fibre and S2 fibre glass variant – both featuring the steel alloy chassis – will become available by the end of September.

Capricorn TE04 MDM chassis conversion kit

Coming from Capricorn and made for their TE04 electric touring car is the MDM mid motor chassis conversion kit. Moving the layshaft and motor to the middle of the chassis, the update neutralises the weight distribution and balance in the car. With the latest generation body shells now providing a lot of steering and downforce, the MDM conversion makes the TEO4 more easy to drive over the duration of a run while corner speed and flow between corners is also greatly improved. The conversion features equal length front and rear belts, making for a more balanced throttle response on and off power. The chassis conversion is compatible with standard and short size LiPo batteries, allowing drivers to experiment with the weight distribution and electric layout in the car to suit their needs. This conversion is recommended for medium to large outdoor and indoor tracks. For drivers who are racing on carpet tracks or high traction asphalt tracks, a new aluminium chassis is also available.

Sharpe-Simkiss wins at PDMCC Summer Series Rd8

Round 8 of the PDMCC HB Racing Summer Series was held this past weekend. In the 22-minute Nitro Buggy A-final it was top qualifier, Chris Sharpe-Simkiss (SWorkz) with the win from Allan Ward (HB Racing) some eleven seconds behind. Vincenzo Zuccarelli (Mugen) would complete the top 3 podium result a lap down.

Klinik RC B74 carbon fibre bellcrank steering arm

Zen Racing 1/12th scale carbon aero discs

Coming from Zen Racing are new carbon fibre aero discs for 1/12th scale pan car wheels. Made from 0.5mm carbon these aero discs are designed to reduce air turbulence for increased efficiency and stability at speeds. The front discs are 33.4mm in diameter while the rear ones are 34.5mm diameter. They are sold as a pack of four, two front and two rear.

Jackie Shum wins at Team Powers Cup Rd2

The second round of the 2019 Team Powers Cup was held at the Hong Kong based PYC track recently. In the Touring Modified class it was Yokomo/LRP’s Jackie Shum with the overall TQ and win from 2nd place qualifier, Fong King (Yokomo/Team Powers). PC Boy (ARC/Hobbywing) came in 3rd to round out the podium in front of Xray/Hobbywing’s Barry Wu and Destiny/Team Powers driver, Top Man.

Kyle Branson wins at BRCA 1/10th IC Nats Rd7

Round 7 of the BRCA 1/10th IC National Series was held at the Cotswold track over the weekend. Capricorn’s Kyle Branson was in control of things, taking the overall TQ and also coming out on top in the 30-minute A-main event, a lap in front of new Capricorn teammate and 2nd place qualifier, Alex Thurston. Some eight laps behind the two, to was Capricorn’s Joe Kerry who would round out the top 3 result.

Ogden & Bornhorst win at 2019 Southern Nationals

The 2019 Southern Nationals were held in West Monroe, Louisiana this past weekend, attracting 400 entries for the usual mix of nitro and electric 1/8th off-road classes. In the premier Pro Nitro Buggy class it was Tekno RC’s Joe Bornhorst with the overall TQ from HB Racing’s Cole Ogden in 2nd place after the qualifiers. The 45-minute A-main event then saw Cole taking the win some two laps in front of HB Racing’s Spencer Heckert as Joe Bornhorst had to settle for 3rd overall, another 18.5 seconds down. Tyler Hooks and Dillon Caldwell came in 4th and 5th respectively.

Over in Pro Nitro Truggy it was Cole Ogden with the overall TQ but 3rd place qualifier, Joe Bornhorst would take the win with a 1-lap margin in the 45-minute A-main from Cole in 2nd and Team Associated’s Evan Vail in 3rd. Tyler Hooks came in 4th from Kody Watson in 5th.

Fabio Ramos wins at Portuguese 200mm Nats Rd5

The fifth and final round of the Portuguese IC Track Nationals was held at the Radiomodelismo do Porto club over the weekend. In the 1/10th 200mm Nitro Touring class it was Fabio Ramos with the overall win after a very challenging A—main final from Jose Pequito in 2nd. Paulo Mota would round out the top 3 podium result.

Samix Enduro rear aluminium shock plate

Coming from Samix are the new rear aluminium shock plates for the Element RC Enduro trail truck. Machined from high-quality aluminium and coming anodised in black or gun metal colour for wear and looks, the shock stays offer increased rigidity as well as six different shock mounting locations, allowing to fine-tune the suspension setup to the driver’s liking. The parts come with laser-etched Samix logos and all needed hardware, such as aluminium shock standoffs.

Jon Hazlewood takes EFRA 40+ Nitro Buggy title

The 2019 EFRA 40+ 1/8th Nitro Buggy European Championship was held at the LA Speedway in Landshut, Southern Germany this past weekend. After the four rounds of qualifying it was Simon Reeves with the overall TQ from his fellow countrymen Jon Hazlewood and Simon Willets. Peter Harder from Denmark came in 4th as Daniel Reckward and Andreas Bartels from Germany completed the top 6 results for now. The semifinal B then saw Jon taking the win while in the semi A it was Simon Willets with the fastest time as top qualifier, Simon Reeves only came in 10th, meaning he would not earn a spot in the 45-minute A-main event. The latter was a very close affair and was ultimately won by Agama’s Jon Hazlewood who left behind Mugen’s Stephane Deroch from France, only 2.6 seconds behind. Xray’s Peter Harder came in 3rd, only 0.5 seconds behind Stephane.

Avid B74 -2mm rear carbon fibre shock tower

Avid have introduced a rear carbon fibre shock tower in -2mm configuration for the Team Associated B74 buggy. The shock stay is made from 100 percent carbon fibre and designed to limit the shock up travel to keep the dogbone from hitting the outdrives at full compression. It is machined from 4.0mm thick carbon fibre, matches the stock shock angles and has two small drill holes under the centre hole of the wing mount for notification.

Samix Enduro aluminium front shock plate

Samix have introduced aluminium front shock mounting plates for the Element RC Enduro trail trucks. Machined from high-quality material and coming anodised for looks and wear, the shock stays incorporate six different shock mounting locations while laser-etched Samix logos and machined silver edge details make the parts stand out. The sets also include a cantilever link mount bracket and they are available in black and gun metal colour.

Portuguese Electric On-road Nationals Rd5 – Report

The 5th and final round of the Portuguese Electric On-road Nationals was held at the AAC track in Coimbra last weekend. In the Touring Car class it was Serpent’s Hugo Miguel with the overall TQ after sweeping the qualifiers by taking all rounds. A1 then was all smooth sailing for Hugo who controlled the race up front, racing on new rubber. A2 was a different affair though. With the other drivers now on new rubber and Hugo running on used tyres, he lacked traction in the opening stages and got into more trouble when he was hit from behind, meaning the decision for the win would be shifted to A3. The final A-main then was a 3-horse battle between Hugo, Mario Miranda (Xray) and Carlos Manuel (Capricorn). After a thrilling race it was Hugo with the win that also meant the overall championship title for him.

Over in Formula, that attracted nine entries, it was Paulo Bartolo with the TQ in two rounds of qualifying, meaning the pole position for the A-main finals followed by Daniel Lima and Luis Simoes. The finals were once again stuffed with super-close fighting. Ultimately Bartolo (Serpent) won the first and second leg of the finals for an early overall victory from Luís Simoes (Xray) and Daniel Lima (Serpent). With this result, Paulo Bartolo also took the overall win in the Formula Cup.

Bittydesign Vision MBX8 pre-cut buggy body shell

Bittydesign have introduced their all-new Vision 1/8th nitro buggy body shell for the Mugen MBX8. Designed in collaboration with Nitro Buggy World Champion, Robert Batlle the body will offer an easier to drive and more balanced feeling compared to the Mugen kit body thanks to a new cabin, side pod and rear side flaps design that optimises the aerodynamic characteristics. In addition a flap behind the engine area guides the air towards the rear wing for a smoother and more directed airflow around the shock tower and lower wing mount. The body comes moulded from high-quality 1mm Lexan polycarbonate and it is laser pre-cut to fit all MBX8 and older MBX7 models. Included comes a pre-cut decal sheet as well as window masks.

Tekno NB48 2.0 1/8th nitro buggy kit

Following a couple of first teasers Tekno RC have fully unveiled their new NB48 2.0 1/8th scale nitro buggy kit. The buggy builds on a newly designed chassis that is 1mm thinner than the previous main plate, however due to its wider design its reduces twitchiness and improves handling and flex characteristics on rough tracks. The buggy also does not sport a traditional radio tray but separate radio and battery boxes as well as independent servo mounts for a more equal left/right chassis flex. Both the battery and receiver box are of the same dimensions, allowing to swap battery and receiver for weight bias changes.

The 2.0 also features a new long-arm narrow pivot suspension geometry to make the buggy easier to drive, provide superior bump handling, superior jump landing, and allow the vehicle to be pushed much harder than before without getting in trouble. To achieve the long arm design, the front arms are twisted the end for the needed clearance to lower the axle. The same trick allowed for a longer arm and enough room to place the spindle/kingpin axis on the same plane as the outer hinge axis, producing a zero offset, zero scrub steering system that is as durable as an outset C-hub design. On the track, this translates to smoother cornering and direction changes with exceptional mid-corner bump handling. The rear suspension geometry has also seen significant changed along with a few new ideas and adjustments such as the active toe system that uses inserts on the outside of the arms that allow to add active toe in for more traction out of the corners on tight or loose tracks. Or drivers can choose active toe out for enhanced corner speed or bump handling on higher speed, higher traction layouts.

Also new with the 2.0 variant are significantly larger differentials that offer 35 percent more oil volume which helps with consistency during long mains, but it also extends the time between rebuilds. In addition a slightly finer internal gear pitch ensures better meshing and thus smoother diffs and less heat build-up. To further reduce heat build-up and improve consistency, the kit will include a compact double-bearing supported centre differential. Metal on metal contact, even when properly greased or aligned, produces excessive heat. Tekno have mitigated this issue by using ball bearings in place of the traditional sleeves to fully support the centre outdrives and completely eliminate the metal to metal friction between the outdrives and the mating parts.

Last but not least are updated front and rear bulkheads that were required due to the larger differentials. The bulkheads allow for easier diff access, improved bearing support and ball-raced anti-rill bars. The buggy is available for backorder now and will hit stores mid-October.

Xpress GripXero D1 heavy duty steel pulley shafts

Xpress have announced the release of their new heavy duty steel pulley shaft set for the GripXero D1 drift car.
